Mock Lasagna Casserole

1 pound bulk pork sausage

1 15oz can (2 cups) tomato sauce

½ cup water

½ tsp garlic salt

½ tsp pepper

½ tsp dried basil, crushed

1  7 oz  package macaroni, cooked and drained

1 ½ cups cream style cottage cheese

1 ½ cups shredded American cheese (6 oz)

In skillet brown the meat; drain off fat. Add tomato sauce, water, garlic salt, pepper and basil. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes. Stir occasionally. In a 2-quart casserole layer, half each macaroni, cottage cheese, shredded cheese and meat sauce. Repeat layers. Bake it uncover in 375-degree oven for 30 minutes. Make 6 to 8 servings.

Cost cutting recipe. You can substitute ground beef for pork sausage.
