Basic White Sauce
Recipe from Better Homes and Gardens Cooking for One
1 TBSP Butter
1 TBPS flour
Dash of salt
Dash of pepper
1 Cup of milk
In a heavy saucepan, melt butter. Stir in flour, salt,
pepper till blended. Add milk all at
once. Cook and stir over medium heat till mixture is thickened and bubbly, then
cook 1 minute more. To store, refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 4
days: Makes 1 cup.
Easy Standard recipe everyone should have this can easily be
doubled or more. You will use the basic white sauce to make gravies, scalloped
potatoes, add cheese and make a cheese sauce etc. You can get the basics and
make unlimited dishes with it.
