Oatmeal bread

Vintage recipe card

1 Cup Oatmeal

2 Cups boiling water

1 package of yeast or 2 ¼ tsp

½ cup warm water (110to 115 degrees)

½ cup molasses

½ tsp salt

1 TBSP melted shortening

4 ½ cups flour

Combine oats and boiling water stir, cover and let stand for 1 hour.

Proof yeast in warm water and add to cooled oats. Then add molasses, salt, shortening, flour mix until combined. Let rise. When light but thoroughly raised; place in greased bread pans, let rise to top of pan. Bake  at 400 degrees for 10 minutes REDUCE heat to 375 degrees and bake another 35 to 40 minutes.
