Plain Cake

From American Family Cookbook 1951

3 Cups sifted flour

4 tsp baking powder

½ tsp salt

1 cup sugar

1 beaten egg

1 cup milk

¼ cup melted shortening

1 tsp vanilla

Sift Flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar together (in a bowl). Combine all the other ingredients (in another bowl). Combine the 2 mixtures and stir until smooth. Pour into greased pan. Bake in moderate oven 365-degrees for 25 minutes. If formed into cupcakes, bake in moderately hot oven (375-degrees) for 20 minutes.
